About Nechama Lookout
Mitzpe Nechama Lookout campsite is located in southern Golan Heights, near the town of Yonatan and the Golan Trail. The campsite was established in memory of Nechama Ruthstein, one of the founders of Yonatan who passed away from cancer. The lookout offers breathtaking views of the open landscape of southern Golan Heights, and serves as a resting point, camping spot and stopover for hikers in the area.
The place is especially recommended in the evening, when you can see the breathtaking scenery of the area in the light of the spectacular sunset – you can see the water reservoirs of the Golan Heights and wadis with water-rich streams (of course only after rains). Near the campsite stands an old Syrian bunker that was used by the IDF in the Six Day War.
The campsite is a quiet and pleasant place for resting and gazing at the magnificent natural scenery of southern Golan Heights. It is recommended to stop by if you are in the area.

- Organized/Unorganized – Mitzpe Nechama Lookout is an organized and well-maintained campsite. The campsite functions as part of the Golan Trail overnight campsites.
- When the campsite is open – Mitzpe Nechama Lookout campsite can be visited and used for camping in all seasons.
- Recommended season – It is recommended to visit and camp at Mitzpe Nechama Lookout campsite in spring because the view from all directions is full of green and the temperatures are very comfortable for camping. It will also be nice in the fall for similar reasons, but the scenery will likely be more yellow and brown due to the dry vegetation from the summer months.
- Entry and exit hours – There are no specific time restrictions or length of stay at Mitzpe Nechama Lookout campsite, but in the hot hours of summer you won’t find much shade beyond the single pergola at the campsite and it’s not ideal to stay in a tent during the hot hours or intense sunlight.
- Cleanliness – The place is clean and well maintained, and you can see that ongoing maintenance is done for the benefit of hikers camping.
